I’m a diet Luddite. I don’t try any food trends. I still think “kwenoah” when I see the word “quinoa,”  and don’t know if the ‘c’ in acai berry is hard or soft. Twelve years ago, I tried the Atkins diet, and on day 3 wanted to lick the wallpaper, so I quickly gave that up. My food mantra is “moderation.” Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t.

So many people though, especially in the running, cycling, endurance athlete world, seem to latch onto the latest and greatest trends, and I’ll admit, sometimes all this talk inspires a bit of FOMO. If I eschewed gluten, simple carbs, sugar, caffeine, or whatever, would I finally break that sub 2:00 HM barrier?

And then, just prior to my Juneathon 4 miles, I read this.

I think I’ll be happy with a 2:03 pb and cookies that don’t contain any ennui.

Moderation and common sense are the best diets, I reckon.
