just when you think

you’ve run out of something to write about, the phone rings.

And it’s a friend asking if you’ve got any Kewpie Mayonnaise for her potato salad.

kewpie mayo

and lo and behold, a post is born!

Kewpie Mayonnaise is Japanese mayonnaise, and it’s the best in the world.  I used to work for a Japanese food company that also made mayo, but in the test kitchen they stocked Kewpie mayo, and once I asked one the guys why, and he said “because it’s the best mayonnaise in the world.”

Anyways, my friend in town is Japanese, so she knew that if anyone had a stockpile of Kewpie Mayonnaise, it would be me.  So I ran the bottle over to her on my way to my “winter warriors” run tonight.

And what a great run!  The acupuncture seems to be the icing on my road to recovery.  Finally, I ran at a pace that was faster than my recent 10+/mile (for a while I thought my app was broken, it seemed to be stuck at 10:40/mile).  I can’t wait until Alaina can stick those needles in my hamstring! (and i can’t believe I actually am saying that!)

And on a more positive note, I got a FB message from a former college classmate. Our 25th (egads! I’m old!) reunion is coming up, and she asked if I wanted to be the lead organizer (along with the school) on the 10k that’s offered.  Of course I said yes!

Janathon stats:

  • miles today: 3.02
  • Janathon total: 52
  • # of bottles of kewpie mayonnaise chez Sato: 2
  • # of bottles offered to friend: 1

I have never seen that kind of mayonaise before…is it really that much better? I take it I would need to go to a specialty store for it?

And yahhh for you on the run .. and the needle thingy nod nods.

Katie, it’s delicious in a way that I can’t even describe. Maybe mayo in GB and Europe is different than the crap passing as mayo in the US, but if you’re ever in an Asian grocery store, look for it. You’ll be happy you did.
